If you’re using a field with a Maxlength setting, it’s helpful to your users to include a Character Count tag, which will display the number of characters entered into the associated field.
To add a Character Count tag to a contact form, you must manually add the “count” tag to the form on the Form Tab of the Edit Contact Form Page for the contact form you are editing. The Character Count tag must have the same name as the field you want it associated with.
For example, if you have a text field named “your-message” with Maxlength set:
[textarea your-message maxlength:1000]
To add a character count for “your-message” you would add the Character Count Tag into the form as follows:
- down – By default, the Character Count Tag shows the number of characters entered into the associated field. If you add the “down” option, it will show how many characters are remaining prior to reaching the Maxlength set.
